Frequently asked questions
Are traders eligible for MSME registration?
Yes. Following a 2021 RBI circular, retail and wholesale traders are now allowed to register on Udyam, though their benefits are limited strictly to Priority Sector Lending.
Do I need to renew it every year?
No. The Udyam certificate is valid for the lifetime of the business. However, your investment and turnover data is automatically updated by the portal via the CBDT (Income Tax) and GSTN databases.
What defines a Micro enterprise?
Investment in plant & machinery/equipment up to ₹1 Crore AND turnover up to ₹5 Crores.
Is it mandatory?
No, it is entirely voluntary. But the delayed payment protection alone makes it highly recommended for B2B businesses.
