How the PPF corpus is calculated

Assuming one deposit at the start of each year and annual compounding:

A = P × [ (1 + i)n − 1 ] ⁄ i × (1 + i)

where P is the yearly investment, i the annual rate (as a decimal) and n the number of years. PPF is EEE — the investment (up to ₹1.5L under 80C), the interest and the maturity are all tax-free. The interest rate is set by the government each quarter, so actual returns will vary over the tenure.
